This book, the seventh edition of Food Poisoning and
Food Hygiene, retains its original tile as conceived by
Dr Betty C Hobbs for the first edition in 1953. Dr
Hobbs was joined by Dr Richard Gilbert (her
successor as Director of the Public Health Labora -
tory Service Food Hygiene Labora tory) as a coauthor for the fourth edition in 1978. For the fifth
and sixth editions, published in 1987 and 1993, Dr
Diane Roberts (Deputy Director of the Food
Hygiene Laboratory) replaced Dr Gilbert as coauthor.
